Weekend of September 30+October 1

Impact “drive season” kicks off this weekend

Our church community loves to jump in and help fill a need! Over the next few months we’ll be introducing you to several local IMPACT partners who are serving different groups of our neighbors in need. Along with each introduction we’ll be conducting a supply “drive” for that organization to help meet the needs of the people they are serving. This weekend we’re kicking off our “Drive Season” and introducing The Dwelling Place, which serves women and children in our community who are seeking escape from domestic violence. Please check the info table in the commons this weekend to learn more and to get a shopping list for The Dwelling Place, our first drive of the season.

Parenting Event for every stage
Because every parenting phase is unique, you need resources along the way. Our Family Team is hosting a parenting event with four different breakout sessions for four different situations. Whether you’re dealing with mental health, want to grow as a spiritual leader in your home, want to be prepared for having intentional conversations about sexuality and body changes, or are preparing for the college application and financial path, we will have live teaching, discussion, and Q&A for each breakout. Join us Monday, October 9, 6:30-8:30 pm. This is a registration only event without childcare, so register here. Light snacks provided. Spots are limited, and registration closes Friday, October 6.

Want more peace in your finances?
Finances seem to be the last thing we want to to think about but the most problematic when we don’t. Financial Peace University equips you with tools and rhythms in your finances that actually let you think about it less and experience more peace because you have a great plan. Join the fall session of FPU starting October 8 during our 10:45 am service. Kids may attend Five Oaks Kids during FPU. Scholarships available based on need. Interested? Details and registration here.

Fifth Grade Fun Night: invite friends and register now!
Fifth grade is traditionally known as the “I’ve got this” phase. Kids are growing in their independence, yet still have a lot of learning to do before they fly the nest. To help kids feel confident and ready to transition to youth group in sixth grade, we offer several fifth grade-only events each year. The first one this year is on Friday, October 13, 6:30-8:30 pm at Five Oaks and will include fall games and fun activities! Register here.

Camp Getaway: Register now!
High schoolers often run a very busy schedule, so a weekend away with friends for games, worship, learning about their place in the Story of God, and meeting new friends is super important. Registration is now open for our annual fall campout. We’re going back to Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch this year, November 3-5. More details and registration here. Questions? Email students@fiveoakschurch.org.

Got a welcoming smile?
You know that awkward “I’m new here” feeling? We have lots of new neighbors and with that comes opportunities to expand our Connections Ministry. We’d like some friendly, smiling faces greeting at our west entrance, which for our new neighbors is now our second front door! We’re also looking for more volunteers on our concierge team to help new people get connected into the life of our church. Interested or have questions? Please email Laura-Paige Albert.

Do you love to write?
If you enjoy writing and might like to use your talents to bless our congregation, our DailyLife writing team would like to talk to you. We’re currently looking for writers to fill two different writing roles: a regular writer, who creates three days’ of content at a time (about once a month) and a Friday writer, who creates a weekly reflection piece based on content provided for that week. (about twice a month). Both positions include training, resources, and onboarding. Interested in either one? Email Liza Halverson.

Fall Story of God classes are now open for registration!
If you’d like to learn how to understand what you’re reading in the Bible, and how the Bible fits together to tell one big story, consider registering for the Story of God, a six-week guided journey through the Bible. We have four class starting this fall. All the details and registration is available here.

Interested in a summer family mission trip?

No, it’s not too early to be thinking about SUMMER 2024!  It’s been several years since Five Oaks has coordinated family mission trips. We’re hoping that your family (or your small group) are interested in helping us change that. We’re exploring two possibilities: a trip in partnership with Word of Life Panama and a trip with John Grimberg and Filter of Hope (location TBD).  If you are interested in potentially being a part of either of these trips next summer, please plan to join us for an introductory information session. We’ll host two of these sessions, both at 10:15 in Room 105, on October 8 and October 15.  If you’re interested, but cannot join either session, please email Dave Baar at impact@fiveoakschurch.org.

Gathering to Pray for our IMPACT Partners - Join Us!

Each month two different groups of Five Oakers gather to bring the needs and praises of our missionaries and IMPACT partners to our God in prayer. Please consider joining one or both of these groups as we gather to pray, humbly and confidently recognizing that the prayers of God’s people are a most powerful weapon for expanding God’s Kingdom on this earth.  For more information, or to get signed-up, contact Dave Baar at impact@fiveoakschurch.org

  • SESSION 1 (prayer for all IMPACT Partners): 4th Sunday of every month at 10:15am, at Five Oaks in Room 102.

  • SESSION 2 (focused prayer for our IMPACT Partners in the Middle East): 3rd Monday of every month at 7pm, via ZOOM.
