Weekend of March 30+31

WHo needs to hear the easter message this year?

Did you know that the number one reason that people give for not being involved in a church is simply that they moved? Knowing that, whom could you invite to join you at Five Oaks this weekend?

We’re looking forward to seeing you and your people both Friday at our Good Friday services and this weekend for our Easter services.
Friday, March 29, 5:30 & 7 pm – Good Friday service (no children’s programming)
Saturday, March 30, 4:30 pm – Easter service
Sunday, March 31, 8:30, 9:45, & 11 am – Easter service
Children’s programming is available at all services on Saturday and Sunday. All the Easter weekend details can be found here.

VBS is open to current ages 3 years old through 3rd grade. FCA sports camp is open to current 4th - 7th grades. Volunteers are needed for both events. Journeymen: Two new studies starting in April
Journeymen has two groups that meet, and each group is starting a new study upcoming.

Saturday Journeymen: Return to Discipleship-Making by Jeff Vanderstelt. Every ministry in our churches should work toward the goal of forming people who love Jesus, spend time with him, and want to live like him. Sometimes, as church leaders, we get distracted from that mission in activities that don’t contribute to the essential task that Jesus gave us as a church. We’ll focus on seven key shifts we need to make to cultivate disciples. Starts April 6 at Five Oaks.

Wednesday Journeymen: How to Face Life’s Challenges by Stephen Foster. A six-part series on how Jesus’s teachings unlock some of life’s major challenges. Biblical and practical application relating to things such as worry, failure, anger, loving enemies, judging others, and facing temptation. Starts April 10 at East Ridge High School.

Ladies: Let's brunch!
Join other ladies at our next TABLE  on Wednesday, April 3, 9:30 am at Five Oaks Church. This is a potluck-style meal with fellowship and a time of guided conversation. All are welcome; invite your friends and join us for a time of connection. Childcare available. Registration and more info here. Questions? Please email our leadership team.

Got a current fifth- or eighth-grade student?
We know that transitions from elementary to middle school and middle to high school can be intimidating. To help your student feel comfortable at youth group next year, we invite them to join us on April 10, 6-8 pm, for Fitth and Eighth Grade Preview Night at Five Oaks Students. They’ll meet students and leaders and participate in the various aspects of student ministry! Details and registration available at www.fiveoaks.church/students. Questions? Email students@fiveoakschurch.org.

Interested in baptism or dedication?
These are two important milestones in an individual and family’s faith journey. We’re looking forward to having baptisms and dedications the weekend of April 13+14. If you’re interested in either of these milestones, but missed our most recent round of Faith Milestone Classes, please email Kelly Bauman.

Global 6K: Save now on registration!
In some countries, kids must walk 3+ miles each day to access dirty water, the only water they can find. You can help simply by joining our fourth annual Team World Vision Global 6K for Water at Colby Lake Park on May 18. You may run, walk, push a stroller, and bring your friends and neighbors! Your registration fee provides clean water for one person for a lifetime. World Water Day is March 22, so from March 18-April 10, save $15 per registration with code CLEANWATER. Register at www.fiveoaks.church/global-6k.

Bring new hope to a student at Woodbury Elementary
Our church is privileged to partner with Woodbury Elementary School through Kids Hope USA to provide 1:1 mentoring for referred students who need a little extra care and support. We are actively seeking mentors for four young girls who need a caring, attentive, and consistent adult presence in their lives: Calliope (Kindergarten), Ariana (4th), Naseema (3rd), and Emily (3rd). Here’s a little bit about a few of our students:

“She really seems to need someone to talk to.  There are many days where she comes to school without a smile and shares that things at home are frustrating.“

“Recently moved in with grandma and mom isn’t involved in their lives anymore. She’s very sweet but cries easily.”

“She struggles with anxiety and stomach aches and often doesn’t want to come to school. She struggles with some of her peers.”

“She needs help building friendships and social skills.”

Interested in standing in the gap for any one of these young girls? Stop by the ministry cart this weekend between services, or email khusa@fiveoakschurch.org.

Curious about leading a small group?
If you love people and the idea of encouraging them in their faith journey energizes you, or if you’re someone with a gift of hospitality, we’d love to talk with you about what’s involved in leading an adult small group at Five Oaks. Join us April 7 at 10:45 am to learn more about small group leadership, meet others in this role, and ask all the questions you might have. Details and registration here.

Brownies, bunco, bonding & Bible study
Ladies, as you start making plans for spring, mark your calendars for these new and returning ways to connect. 1. We have a new evening “pop-up” (shorter length) study starting Monday night, April 8 (the book of Ruth). They both meet from 6:30-8:00 pm at church. 2. Join us on Thursday, April 11 where we will brush away the mild winter blues with Bunco, Brownies & Bonding. You can register for all of these on our website: www.fiveoaks.church/women.

Specific need: Help turn sleeping bags into blessings!
One of our mission partners, Greg Larson, works in urban ministry at Kairos Church in East Hollywood, CA. They do some work with those experiencing homelessness and have asked if we’d be willing to provide sleeping bags or blankets to give out to people. These can be shipped straight to Kairos Church from Amazon, for example, or from another retail source.
