Journeymen: Two new studies starting in April
Journeymen has two groups that meet, and each group is starting a new study upcoming.

Saturday Journeymen: Return to Discipleship-Making by Jeff Vanderstelt. Every ministry in our churches should work toward the goal of forming people who love Jesus, spend time with him, and want to live like him. Sometimes, as church leaders, we get distracted from that mission in activities that don’t contribute to the essential task that Jesus gave us as a church. We’ll focus on seven key shifts we need to make to cultivate disciples. Started April 6 at Five Oaks, but guys can jump in anytime.

Wednesday Journeymen: How to Face Life’s Challenges by Stephen Foster. A six-part series on how Jesus’s teachings unlock some of life’s major challenges. Biblical and practical application relating to things such as worry, failure, anger, loving enemies, judging others, and facing temptation. Starts April 10 at East Ridge High School.

Got a current fifth- or eighth-grade student?
We know that transitions from elementary to middle school and middle to high school can be intimidating. To help your student feel comfortable at youth group next year, we invite them to join us on April 10, 6-8 pm, for Fitth and Eighth Grade Preview Night at Five Oaks Students. They’ll meet students and leaders and participate in the various aspects of student ministry! Details and registration available at www.fiveoaks.church/students. Questions? Email students@fiveoakschurch.org.

Curious about missions and impact at Five Oaks?
Once per quarter, our volunteer Impact & Missions leaders gather for dinner to share stories and plans, collaborate on ministry ideas, and to pray for each other and for God’s blessing and glory on the work that we’re doing. If you’re interested in learning more about Impact and Missions, this is the best time and place to do that! Please plan to join us on May 6 at 6 pm at church. Register by emailing Dave Baar at
impact@fiveoakschurch.org.

Bring new hope to a student at Woodbury Elementary
Our church is privileged to partner with Woodbury Elementary School through Kids Hope USA to provide 1:1 mentoring for referred students who need a little extra care and support. We are actively seeking mentors for four young girls who need a caring, attentive, and consistent adult presence in their lives: Calliope (Kindergarten), Ariana (4th), Naseema (3rd), and Emily (3rd). Here’s a little bit about a few of our students:

“She really seems to need someone to talk to.  There are many days where she comes to school without a smile and shares that things at home are frustrating.“

“Recently moved in with grandma and mom isn’t involved in their lives anymore. She’s very sweet but cries easily.”

“She struggles with anxiety and stomach aches and often doesn’t want to come to school. She struggles with some of her peers.”

“She needs help building friendships and social skills.”

Interested in standing in the gap for any one of these young girls? Stop by the ministry cart this weekend between services, or email khusa@fiveoakschurch.org.

Specific need: Help turn sleeping bags into blessings!
One of our mission partners, Greg Larson, works in urban ministry at Kairos Church in East Hollywood, CA. They do some work with those experiencing homelessness and have asked if we’d be willing to provide sleeping bags or blankets to give out to people. These can be shipped straight to Kairos Church from Amazon, for example, or from another retail source.

Do you enjoy social media?
If you love to post, scroll, or experiment across social media platforms, and you love Five Oaks, consider joining our Five Oaks social media team. In this volunteer role, we’ll provide you with training, resources, and collaboration opportunities. You can fill this role from anywhere, anytime, and social media is a lesser-known discipleship tool that helps us reach more people than ever before. Interested? Email Stephanie Kiel.

MIssionaries onsite next weekend
Andrew & Danielle, missionaries whom we support in North Africa, will visit Five Oaks next weekend. Over the last two-plus years they have been living in the Middle East, studying Arabic, studying and growing in their understanding of missions, and working to establish a professional development center in an unreached and unengaged part of their city. They are part of an initiative to spread creative access to church planting efforts throughout the Muslim world and will be launching a new team to North Africa this summer. They have Arabian coffee and sweets to share and would love to connect with you in the commons before and after services during the weekend of April 13+14. Questions or want to know more? Email Dave Baar, impact@fiveoakschurch.org .
